Before there was ~ADORN~, there were two girls, vibrant and creative by nature. Their idea to create beautiful accessories for women burst open when the opportunity to vend at a neighborhood street fair arose. The naive two, with absolutely nothing to sell, boldly jumped at the chance. Having only four weeks to prepare they rushed to Manhattan’s fashion district without a clear idea as to what they were looking for. After a week of city hunting, searching and shopping the two ladies had gathered a variety of beads, wire, tools to make earrings and colorful t-shirts.
By the end of the next three weeks they had t-shirts printed with funny idioms and about 100 pairs of earrings ready to be sold to anyone who would buy them. On the day of the fair, to their surprise, everyone loved their creations. Woman loved them. Children loved them…and not just because of the candy basket strategically placed at the corner of their table. Men even loved them and didn’t hesitate to buy a pair for a lady they loved. Teenagers especially loved the printed shirts adorned with sarcastic sayings that forced everyone to laugh after reading them. Their first venture was more successful then they had ever imagined it would be. The next week the eager entrepreneurs named what was now a business, ‘T’s & Stuff’.
Later, the two comrades separated. One left the country to travel abroad and the other, Raqquyah, stayed in the city. She continued to make and sell earrings at fairs and festivals. Before long, Raqquyah had created a small following of cliental for T’s & Stuff. People started to pursue her in hopes of acquiring the unique earrings she created. What was once an idea was becoming tangibly real before her eyes. From the modest beginnings of T’s & Stuff to the more Savvy Chic ~ADORN~, Raqquyah’s creations, to name a few things have graced the ears of models, chosen to be ‘must haves’ in goodie bags sponsored by Madison And Mulholland, in the magazine, Candy Apple and on the shelves of Michelle New York clothing boutique in Brooklyn, New York. Raqquyah celebrates every success of ~ADORN~ no matter the size and is always humbled by the genuine compliments and encouragement given her by ~ADORN~’s first customers, the people at the neighborhood street fairs.
