After hours of playful chatter, jokes and jesters his smile in an instant straightened and his face suddenly lost all signs of humor. Turning toward me he said, “I love you.” He said, “I truly, truly love you. When I look at you, when I touch you…when I am kissing you, I am saying, I love you.” His voice then lowered to a whisper as he said, “I could kiss you a thousand and one times, saying I love you with every one.”
The sentimental words he whispered rattled my heart and although they had probably been said at another time, to another woman, from the mouth of another man, his sincerity gave him complete ownership of each word. He paused for a second taking time…time he made seem so precious to simply look at me. He lifted his hand and softly glided the tips of his fingers down the sides of my face. His touch, endearing and tender, overwhelmed my body with fiery sensations, covering it with a million and one goose bumps.
With both his eyes, he looked into each of mine…separately as if they weren’t a pair, admiring the unique shape and form of each. His eyes went from my eyes to my nose, on to each cheek, then to my lips which he gently touched; down to my chin and then returning slowly to where he began; my eyes. At that moment I realized how much in love I was…with his. His eyes burned bright when the light of the day’s sun hit them but glowed just as radiantly when the moon hovered over the night. His eyes said what his mouth didn’t, when he was at a loss for words. They spoke what his mouth couldn’t, after he had said all he could and when he kissed me and they were closed I heard the most beautiful…the most eloquently put phrases, statements and sometimes songs.
He kissed my nose and said, “I love you.” He kissed my left eye and said, “I love you.” He kissed my right and said, “I love you.” He kissed my forehead and said, “I love you.” He kissed both my cheeks and after each one said, “I love you”. He kissed my chin and said, “I love you.” He kissed my lips and said, “I love you.” He kissed my lips again and said, “Baby, I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you.”
